Smoky quartz is a brown to smoky grey crystalline quartz, whose characteristic colouration is caused by natural radioactive irradiation deep within the earth – this alters traces of aluminium in the crystal lattice. Particularly dark coloured specimens are also referred to as morion. The polished 10 mm beads show the warm, earthy brown of the stone in all its depth and are ideal for natural-looking, expressive jewellery.
