Smoky quartz is a brown to smoky grey crystalline quartz, whose characteristic coloring is caused by natural radioactive irradiation deep within the earth – traces of aluminum in the crystal lattice are altered in the process. Particularly dark colored specimens are also referred to as morion. The polished 8 mm balls show the warm, earthy brown of the stone in a versatile size – ideal for necklaces, bracelet combinations and mala beads.
