Smoky quartz is a brown to smoky-grey crystalline quartz, whose characteristic color is created by natural radioactive irradiation deep within the earth – this changes traces of aluminum in the crystal lattice. Particularly dark-colored specimens are also referred to as morion. The deltoid shape – a distinctive rhombus shape – gives this strand a geometric, expressive silhouette. The warm brown of the smoky quartz and the clear form make it a special material for modern, earthy jewelry.
