Smoky quartz is a brown to smoky grey crystalline quartz, whose characteristic coloration is caused by natural radioactive irradiation deep within the earth – this changes traces of aluminum in the crystal lattice. Particularly dark colored specimens are also referred to as morion. The long-oval beads (10 x 30 mm) give this strand an elegant, flowing effect – the warm brown of the smoky quartz is particularly impressive in this size.
