Smoky quartz is a brown to smoky grey crystalline quartz, whose characteristic coloration results from natural radioactive radiation in the earth's interior – this alters aluminum traces in the crystal lattice. Particularly darkly colored specimens are also referred to as morion. The tumbled faceted shape combines the organic nature of a tumbled stone with natural, slightly angular contours – each bead a unique piece with its own character. The warm brown of the smoky quartz is particularly authentically expressed in this natural form.
