Emerald belongs to the beryl family – which also includes aquamarine and morganite – and derives its intense green color from chromium inclusions in the crystal lattice. It is one of the four classic precious stones and was revered as a magical stone by the ancient Egyptians. Famous deposits are located in Colombia and Brazil – emeralds have also been found in Austria.
