Shungite – also spelled shungit – is a Precambrian rock with a high carbon content (between 30% and over 98%, depending on the quality grade). Its deep black color is a result of this exceptionally high carbon content. The name is derived from the Russian village of Shunga in Karelia, where the mineral has been known for centuries. Each tumbled stone is unique: one of a kind in shape, grain, and weight, set with a silver eyelet.
