Larimar, also known as Atlantis Stone, is a very rare stone found in only one location worldwide, the Dominican Republic, and is therefore very rarely offered for sale.
The name "Larimar" is a combination of the girl's name "Lari" and the Spanish word "Mar" for "sea." It was discovered and named in 1975 by Miguel Mendez, owner of a Larimar mine in the Dominican Republic. This Caribbean stone, mineralogically classified as a pectolite, is distinguished by its intense light blue color—the more blue, the more valuable. The coloring trace elements in Larimar are copper and vanadium.
