Emerald is showcased in this A-grade gemstone necklace as a finely faceted button-style strand of 4 mm beads in a rich, vibrant green – ranging from deep blue-green to fresh yellow-green. The faceted surface makes the intense green of the emerald glow. Characteristic natural inclusions – the so-called "jardin" (French for garden) – are typical of genuine emerald and are a sign of its authenticity; no two stones are alike. Emerald is a dark to light green variety of the mineral beryl (Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈) from the cyclosilicate group – belonging to the same mineral family as aquamarine (blue) and morganite (pink). The green coloration is caused by traces of chromium and vanadium. Mohs hardness: 7.5–8, hexagonal crystal system. Locations: Colombia (Muzo, Chivor), Zambia, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan.
