Mineralogically, sodalite is a sodium aluminum silicate chloride (Na₈Al₆Si₆O₂₄Cl₂), with a Mohs hardness of 5.5–6 and a cubic crystal system. The name is derived from the Greek "soda" (salt) + "lith" (stone) – "salt stone" – due to its high sodium content. Its characteristic royal blue color with white calcite veins makes sodalite unmistakable; it rarely exhibits a cat's eye effect as well. The fancy shape refers to individually shaped, irregularly cut stones (6–8 mm) – each stone is unique in its form. Locations: Canada (Ontario), Brazil, Namibia, Russia.
Significance in crystal healing
Sodalite is considered a stone of the third eye, logical thinking, and concentration. It is said to promote foresight and rationality, aid in learning, and alleviate test anxiety. It is believed to be associated with the brow chakra. These attributions are based on handed-down tradition and are not scientifically proven. They do not replace medical treatment.
