The name sodalite is derived from the Greek: soda (salt) and lithos (stone) – a reference to the mineral's high sodium content. Sodalite displays a characteristic blue with white calcite veins and visually resembles lapis lazuli, though it is a distinct mineral. Rarely, sodalite also exhibits chatoyancy. The 4 mm faceted beads combine the stone's deep blue with a lively play of light – versatile for necklaces, bracelet combinations, and mala beads.
Significant deposits: Canada (Ontario), Brazil, Namibia, Russia, Greece.
Significance in crystal healing
In crystal healing, sodalite is considered a stone of the third eye, perspective, and concentration. It is said to promote logical thinking and provide inner peace. These attributions are based on tradition and are not scientifically proven. They do not replace medical treatment.
