Goldstone is not a natural stone, but a synthetically produced glass that gets its characteristic glitter effect from the melting in of iron oxide particles. Blue goldstone owes its colour to finely distributed iron oxide inclusions that sparkle in the light. The faceting of the large 14 mm spheres enhances this light effect particularly impressively, making each strand a real eye-catcher. Despite its artificial origin, goldstone has been a popular gemstone for centuries, its origin often attributed to 17th-century Venetian Murano glass.
