Goldstone is not a natural stone, but a synthetically produced glass that gets its characteristic glitter effect by melting in iron oxide particles. Blue goldstone owes its color to finely distributed iron oxide inclusions that sparkle in the light. The oval, faceted shape in 10 × 14 mm gives the strand an elegant elongation – the light refracts in the facets and creates a particularly vibrant sparkle. Despite its artificial origin, goldstone has been a popular gemstone for centuries, its origin often attributed to 17th-century Venetian Murano glass.
