Carnelian is an orange to reddish-orange variety of chalcedony, with a color spectrum ranging from orange to flesh-red. Its characteristic color is due to natural iron oxide inclusions in the crystal lattice. Carnelian is one of humanity's oldest gemstones and was already prized in ancient Egypt and classical antiquity as a protective and lucky stone. The large rectangles (12×16 mm) give the strand a clear, geometric elegance – a modern contrast to the warm, vibrant color of carnelian, ideal for expressive necklaces and contemporary jewelry creations. Note: Red agate is often referred to as carnelian in the trade – unlike this natural stone, however, it is artificially colored.
