Jasper derives its name from Greek – "Iaspis" means "speckled stone". It belongs to the chalcedony group and gets its diverse colors from mineral admixtures of up to 20%. Yellow jasper owes its warm, sunny color to iron oxide inclusions in the crystal lattice. Jasper is an opaque, fine-grained quartz found worldwide and valued as a gemstone and protective stone since antiquity – although in ancient times, completely different minerals were grouped under this name.
