Strand Length: approx. 40 cm
Stone Size: Diameter 6 mm
Cut: Ball, matte
Color: Dark grey to black
Mineralogy: Hematite (Iron Oxide, Fe₂O₃)
Hematite is one of the most important iron ore minerals and has been known for millennia – its name is derived from the Greek "haima" (blood), as the red grinding dust colors the cooling water blood-red during grinding. Crystalline hematite is also known as specular hematite, red iron ore, or kidney ore. The matte surface of these beads gives the strand a subtle, earthy elegance. Real hematite is heavy and cool to the touch – a sure distinguishing feature compared to inexpensive pressed hematite powder (hematine), which is often offered as an imitation.
Significant deposits: Brazil, England, China, Czech Republic, Bangladesh.
Meaning in Crystal Healing
In crystal healing, hematite is considered a stone of strength, endurance, and grounding. It is said to strengthen perseverance and help implement plans and projects despite external resistance. It is also attributed with a supportive effect on circulation and vitality. These attributions are based on traditional lore and are not scientifically proven. They do not replace medical treatment.
