Strand length: approx. 40 cm
Stone size: diameter 10 mm
Cut: round bead
Color: blue with white calcite veins
Mineralogy: sodalite (feldspar group, Na₈Al₆Si₆O₂₄Cl₂; cubic crystal system; color due to sodium and sulfur)
The name sodalite is derived from the Greek: soda (salt) and lithos (stone) – a reference to the mineral's high sodium content. Sodalite displays a characteristic blue color with white calcite veins and is visually reminiscent of lapis lazuli, though it is a distinct mineral. Rarely, sodalite also exhibits chatoyancy (cat's eye effect). The large 10 mm beads showcase the deep blue of the stone particularly expressively – ideal for mala necklaces, statement necklaces, and striking designer jewelry.
Significant deposits: Canada (Ontario), Brazil, Namibia, Russia, Greece.
Significance in crystal healing
In crystal healing, sodalite is considered a stone of the third eye, far-sightedness, and concentration. It is said to promote logical thinking and provide inner peace. These attributions are based on handed-down tradition and are not scientifically proven. They do not replace medical treatment.
