Moldavite necklace button 4 mm faceted - 925 silver

Moldavite is presented in this gemstone necklace as a finely faceted button chain of 4 mm in vibrant olive green to a warm olive tone. The faceting allows the light to dance particularly vividly within the stone and emphasizes the characteristic color of this cosmic natural glass. Moldavite is not an ordinary gemstone, but a tektite – a natural glass (SiO₂ with Al₂O₃, FeO, etc.) formed about 15 million years ago by the impact of a celestial body approx. 1.5 km in size in what is now the Nördlinger Ries (Bavaria). The energy released during this event melted the rock and ejected it into the atmosphere, where it cooled and solidified into glass. The debris was scattered across what is now the Czech Republic – hence the name, derived from the Vltava (Moldau) River. Its Mohs hardness is 5–5.5. Moldavite is one of the rarest substances on Earth – its deposits are finite.
