Tanzanite necklace button 5 mm faceted - 925 silver

Tanzanite appears in this gemstone necklace as a finely faceted button chain of approx. 5 mm in an intense blue-violet that shimmers between deep sapphire blue and warm violet depending on the light. This fascinating play of color – known as pleochroism – is a natural phenomenon: depending on the viewing angle, tanzanite displays different colors – blue, violet, and burgundy. Tanzanite is an intensely blue-violet variety of the mineral zoisite (Ca₂Al₃(SiO₄)₃(OH)) from the sorosilicate group. The color is caused by traces of vanadium in the crystal lattice. Mohs hardness: 6–7, orthorhombic crystal system, vivid vitreous luster. Tanzanite was discovered in Tanzania in 1967 and named after its only place of discovery – the Merelani Hills at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is therefore one of the rarest gemstones in the world geographically: it is found only in this one place on Earth.
