Tanzanite necklace 2 mm faceted - 925 silver

Tanzanite appears in this gemstone necklace as a finely faceted 2 mm bead chain in an intense blue-violet, which shifts between deep sapphire blue and warm violet depending on the light. The exceptionally small beads showcase the pleochroism of tanzanite in a particularly delicate, intricate way: depending on the viewing angle, the stones shimmer in blue, violet, or burgundy – preciousness on a small scale. Tanzanite is an intensely blue-violet variety of the mineral zoisite (Ca₂Al₃(SiO₄)₃(OH)) from the sorosilicate group. The color is created by traces of vanadium in the crystal lattice. Mohs hardness: 6–7, orthorhombic crystal system, vivid vitreous luster; occasionally displays a cat's eye effect. Discovered in 1967 in Tanzania, named after its only place of occurrence – the Merelani Hills at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. It exists exclusively in this one place in the world.
