This extraordinary necklace made of genuine tanzanite is a jewel of rare preciousness and fascinating depth. The finely faceted button stones, ranging from 5 to 7 mm, vary in size, creating a vibrant, organic feel when worn – each stone unique, each stone a glimpse into the depths of the earth. The intense blue-violet of tanzanite shimmers between luminous sapphire blue and warm violet depending on the light – a play of colors that is unparalleled. Larger and more expressive than the 5 mm variant – this necklace makes a statement.

Mineralogical Properties

Tanzanite is an intensely blue-violet variety of the mineral zoisite (Ca₂Al₃(SiO₄)₃(OH)) and belongs to the sorosilicate group. Its characteristic color – from luminous sapphire blue to warm blue-violet – is caused by traces of vanadium in the crystal lattice. A special feature of tanzanite is its pronounced pleochroism: depending on the viewing angle, it shows different colors – blue, violet, and burgundy. Its Mohs hardness is 6 to 7. Tanzanite crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and exhibits a lively vitreous luster. Sometimes it also shows a cat's eye effect. It was discovered in Tanzania in 1967 and named after its only known locality – the Merelani Hills at the foot of Kilimanjaro. Tanzanite is thus one of the geographically rarest gemstones in the world and is mined only at this one location.
