Tanzanite is featured in this gemstone necklace as a finely faceted button-style chain with stones ranging from 5 to 7 mm. The varying size creates a vibrant, organic appearance—more expressive and bold than the uniform 5 mm version. Its intense blue-violet hue shifts depending on the light, ranging between luminous sapphire blue and warm violet. This fascinating play of color—pleochroism—is a natural phenomenon: depending on the viewing angle, tanzanite displays blue, violet, and burgundy red. Additionally, it may occasionally exhibit a cat's eye effect. Tanzanite is an intensely blue-violet variety of the mineral zoisite (Ca₂Al₃(SiO₄)₃(OH)) from the sorosilicate group. The color is caused by traces of vanadium in the crystal lattice. Mohs hardness: 6–7, orthorhombic crystal system, lively vitreous luster. Discovered in 1967 in Tanzania, it is named after its only place of origin—the Merelani Hills at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. It exists only in this one location in the world.
