Apatite, named after the Greek word apatao, meaning "to deceive," is a stone that has often been, and still is, easily mistaken for other minerals. This calcium phosphate, found worldwide, exhibits a wide range of colors, from colorless, brown, yellow, blue, and green, to rarer shades of pink and violet. A yellowish-green variety is also known as asparagus stone.
