Tiger's eye is mineralogically a pseudomorph: crocidolite fibers (riebeckite asbestos) have been replaced by quartz (SiO₂), while the fibrous structure has been preserved. The golden-yellow to golden-brown coloration is created by the oxidation of iron – the preliminary stage is the blue hawk's eye; if both colors appear in one stone, it is referred to as tiger's eye-hawk's eye. The spectacular chatoyancy effect (cat's eye effect) is created by the play of light on the parallel fibers. Mohs hardness 7. The large 10 mm beads (polished, unfaceted) showcase the moving band of light of the chatoyancy effect particularly clearly and impressively. Locations: South Africa, Australia, India, Myanmar, USA.
Significance in crystal healing
Tiger's eye is considered a protective and lucky stone as well as a stone of concentration and endurance. It is said to strengthen perseverance, aid in learning, and act as a lucky charm for school and university. It is believed to be associated with the solar plexus chakra. These attributions are based on handed-down tradition and are not scientifically proven. They do not replace medical treatment.
