Tourmalines come in many different colors. Black tourmaline, also called schorl, is the most common member of this family. The name tourmaline comes from the ancient Sinhalese word "Toramali," meaning mixed gemstones, which already hints at the variety of colors found in this mineral.
Black tourmaline is a protective stone, especially against negative energies and electromagnetic radiation. According to literature, it protects against negative thoughts and influences, and against the evil eye. Schorl is also said to strengthen our personal energy field in the face of geopathic stress, electromagnetic radiation, and other modern-day burdens, thus protecting us from their harmful effects.
Black tourmaline is also said to successfully heal scars and release energy blockages in the body. It is therefore often worn as a talisman (pendant, bracelet) or used as a crystal for clearing negative energies in living spaces.
