Black Tourmaline (Schorl) bead bracelet 4 mm

Black tourmaline, also known as schorl, is mineralogically a cyclosilicate (NaFe²⁺₃Al₆(Si₆O₁₈)(BO₃)₃(OH)₄), with a Mohs hardness of 7–7.5 and a trigonal crystal system. It owes its intense black color to its high iron content. Schorl is the most common variety of tourmaline. Special feature: tourmaline is piezoelectric and pyroelectric – it becomes electrically charged through pressure or heat; this property has also been used in technical applications. The name comes from the Sinhalese "turamali" ("stone with mixed colors"). Locations: Brazil, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Madagascar, USA, Alps.
