Malachite – its name is derived from the Greek "malache" (mallow), as its color resembles the leaves of the mallow plant. This stone was already known and valued in ancient Egypt, Greece, the Roman Empire, China, and among the Maya: the Egyptians crafted amulets and scarabs from it and used it ground down as eyeshadow. In ancient traditions, it is also referred to as the "midwife's stone." To this day, malachite serves not only as a decorative stone but also as a pigment in painting.
