Here's how to use your spearmint oil:

Digestive support: Place 1-2 drops into an empty capsule and take it with water, or add 1 drop to a glass of water or tea. Spearmint gently supports digestion, relieves bloating and nausea – especially suitable for children.

In the diffuser: Add 4-6 drops to your diffuser for a refreshing, mood-boosting atmosphere – perfect for children's rooms, kitchens or living rooms.

For children: Dilute 1-2 drops with a carrier oil (e.g. V-6™ or coconut oil) and gently massage the mixture onto the stomach or soles of the feet – ideal for stomach aches or discomfort.

For nausea: Inhale directly from the bottle or put 1-2 drops on a tissue for quick relief from nausea or travel sickness.

Aromatherapy: Inhale for quick mood improvement, mental clarity and positive energy – gentler than peppermint.

Massage: Dilute 2-3 drops with a carrier oil and massage the mixture onto the abdomen, neck or soles of the feet – ideal for a relaxing, digestion-promoting massage.

Culinary use: Add 1 drop to smoothies, desserts, tea, water, or salads for a refreshing minty flavor. Use only food-grade spearmint oil!

Application tips:

  • For children: Diluted (1 drop to 1 tablespoon of carrier oil) for stomach aches
  • For digestive problems: Take internally or massage diluted into the abdomen.
  • For nausea: Inhale for fast relief.
  • For a good mood: Use in a diffuser for a mood-boosting effect.
  • For energy: Inhale for a gentle energy boost.
  • In the kitchen: Add 1 drop to dishes or drinks (use sparingly)
  • For fresh mouth: Add 1 drop to water for rinsing.

Important note: Always dilute essential oils before topical application. Recommended dilution for adults: 2-3 drops to 1 tablespoon of carrier oil. For children 2 years and older: 1 drop to 1 tablespoon of carrier oil. For internal use, use only food-grade spearmint oil. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Keep out of reach of children.

About spearmint (Mentha spicata):

Spearmint (Mentha spicata), also known as green mint, is a perennial plant from the mint family (Lamiaceae) native to Europe and Asia. The essential oil is extracted from the leaves by steam distillation and contains valuable constituents such as carvone (50-70%), limonene, and 1,8-cineole. Unlike peppermint, spearmint contains little to no menthol, making it milder, sweeter, and more easily tolerated – especially by children. Spearmint has been traditionally used for centuries for digestive aids, oral hygiene, and as a spice.

Perfect for:

  • Children aged 2 and over (diluted)
  • Digestive support for children and adults
  • Relief from nausea and travel sickness
  • Mood boost and positive energy
  • Gentle: refreshing atmosphere
  • Culinary use in drinks and desserts
  • Oral care and fresh breath
  • A gentle alternative to peppermint

Aroma profile:

Spearmint has a sweet, mild, minty scent with fresh, herbaceous notes. The aroma is refreshing, mood-lifting, and gentler than peppermint. It blends beautifully with lavender, mandarin, lemon, grapefruit, basil, rosemary, and other citrus or herb oils.

Combination recommendations:

  • For children: Spearmint + Lavender + Mandarin
  • For digestion: Spearmint + ginger + fennel
  • For a good mood: Spearmint + Grapefruit + Orange
  • Refreshing blend: Spearmint + Lemon + Basil
  • For energy: Spearmint + rosemary + lemon
  • Summer freshness: Spearmint + Lime + Grapefruit

Spearmint for children:

Spearmint is one of the most child-friendly mint oils:

  • Gentle & mild: No menthol – better tolerated than peppermint
  • For children aged 2 and over: Safe to use when diluted.
  • For abdominal pain: Dilute and massage onto the abdomen for relief.
  • For nausea: Inhale for gentle relief.
  • Pleasant scent: Children like the sweet mint scent.
  • In the diffuser: For a fresh atmosphere in the children's room

Spearmint vs. Peppermint:

Although both are mint oils, there are important differences:

  • Spearmint: Sweeter, milder, no menthol – for children aged 2 and up
  • Peppermint: Stronger, cooling, contains menthol – not for children under 6 years
  • Scent: Spearmint is sweeter and less intense
  • Effect: Spearmint is gentler and more soothing.
  • Uses: Spearmint for children and gentle application, peppermint for intensive effect

Culinary uses:

Spearmint oil is a refreshing addition to the kitchen – however, it's much more concentrated than fresh mint! One drop is often enough for an entire dish. Perfect for:

  • Smoothies and protein shakes
  • Tea and iced tea (especially Moroccan mint tea)
  • Water and lemonade
  • Desserts (chocolate, ice cream, sorbets)
  • Yogurt and quark
  • Salads (especially tabbouleh)
  • Cocktails and mocktails (Mojito)
  • Fruit desserts

Traditional use:

Spearmint has been used traditionally for centuries:

  • For digestion: For abdominal pain, bloating and nausea
  • For oral care: For fresh breath and healthy gums
  • Culinary use: As a spice in Mediterranean and Oriental cuisine
  • For children: Traditionally gentler than other mint oils
