Citrine is mineralogically a yellow variety of quartz (SiO₂), with a Mohs hardness of 7 and a trigonal crystal system. Its color—ranging from pale yellow to golden yellow to yellow-orange—is caused by iron inclusions. The name is derived from the Latin "citrus" (lemon); until the Middle Ages, it was used to describe several yellow stones. Because of its color, it is also referred to as a sun, life, or light stone. Natural citrine is relatively rare—many citrines are created by carefully heating amethyst or smoky quartz. Citrine is the birthstone for November. The large, flat beads (18×12 mm) display the color intensity particularly impressively; a silver bead conceals the knot. Locations: Brazil, Madagascar, Russia, Spain, USA.
Significance in crystal healing
Citrine is considered a bringer of light and a stone of success. It is said to brighten the mood, provide zest for life, strengthen self-confidence, and promote creativity. It is believed to be associated with the solar plexus chakra. These attributions are based on handed-down tradition and are not scientifically proven. They do not replace medical treatment.
