The name Apatite comes from the Greek apatao – "to deceive" – because the stone was and is easily confused with other minerals. Mineralogically, apatite is a calcium phosphate and displays a remarkable variety of colors: colorless, brown, yellow, green, blue, and rarely pink and violet. A yellowish-green variety is also called Asparagus Stone.
