About Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium) from New Zealand:

Manuka is a shrub or small tree native exclusively to New Zealand and belonging to the myrtle family. The essential oil is extracted from the leaves and twigs through steam distillation and is known for its exceptionally strong purifying properties – studies show that manuka is up to 20-30 times more effective than tea tree oil. The indigenous Māori of New Zealand have traditionally used manuka for centuries for various purposes. The name "manuka" comes from the Māori language. Manuka contains valuable constituents such as triketones (leptospermone, isoleptospermone, and flavesone), which are responsible for its exceptional properties. It should not be confused with the well-known manuka honey, which is produced by bees that visit manuka flowers.

Perfect for:

  • Impure, acne-prone skin
  • Skin blemishes, pimples and blackheads
  • Problematic, irritated skin
  • Relaxing foot baths and spa experiences
  • Soothing massage for tension relief
  • Air purification and fresh atmosphere
  • Skincare routine for clear skin
  • Aromatherapy for emotional clarity

Aroma profile:

Manuka has a fresh, herbaceous, slightly sweet scent with honey-like, earthy notes. The aroma is cleansing, clarifying, and calming. It blends beautifully with tea tree, lavender, rosemary, eucalyptus, lemon, bergamot, frankincense, and other cleansing or skin-nourishing oils.

Combination recommendations:

  • For blemished skin: Manuka + Tea tree + Lavender
  • For acne: Manuka + Frankincense + Lavender
  • For foot bath: Manuka + Peppermint + Lavender
  • For massage: Manuka honey + Lavender + Rosemary
  • Air purification: Manuka + Tea tree + Lemon
  • For skincare: Manuka + Frankincense + Geranium

Manuka vs. Tea Tree:

Although both oils are known for their cleansing properties, there are important differences:

  • Strength: Manuka is 20-30 times more purifying than tea tree.
  • Origin: Manuka honey comes exclusively from New Zealand, tea tree from Australia
  • Scent: Manuka is sweeter and honey-like, tea tree is more camphor-like.
  • Skin compatibility: Both are skin-friendly, but Manuka is often gentler.
  • Application: Manuka for stubborn skin problems, tea tree for general cleansing

Manuka for skincare:

Manuka is one of the most effective essential oils for problem skin:

  • Powerful cleansing action: Fights bacteria that cause skin blemishes.
  • Anti-inflammatory: Soothes irritated, inflamed skin
  • Clarifying: Helps to clarify and refine the complexion.
  • Regenerating: Supports skin renewal
  • Balancing: Helps regulate sebum production
  • For all skin types: Particularly effective for blemished, oily and combination skin

Manuka for Spa & Wellness:

Manuka transforms your self-care routine into a spa experience:

  • Foot baths: Relaxing, cleansing and nourishing for tired feet
  • Massage: Soothing for muscles and joints
  • Aromatherapy: Clarifying for mind and emotions
  • Skincare: Luxurious care for problem skin
  • Relaxation: Creates a spa-like atmosphere at home

The Maori tradition:

The indigenous Maori of New Zealand have traditionally used Manuka for centuries:

  • Traditional medicine: For various health purposes
  • Skin care: For the care and cleansing of the skin
  • Spiritual significance: Revered as a sacred plant
  • Cultural heritage: An important part of Maori culture and tradition

Manuka honey vs. Manuka oil:

Both products come from the same plant, but are different:

  • Manuka honey: Produced by bees that visit Manuka flowers – edible, for internal and external use.
  • Manuka oil: Distilled from leaves and twigs – highly concentrated, for external use and aromatherapy
  • Properties: Both have cleansing properties, but in different forms and concentrations.
  • Uses: Honey for nutrition and wound care, oil for aromatherapy and skin care

Scientific research:

Manuka oil has been scientifically studied and shows impressive results:

  • Cleansing effect: Studies show it to be 20-30 times more effective than tea tree oil.
  • Skincare: Effective for various skin problems
  • Triketones: The unique ingredients are responsible for the exceptional properties.
  • Safety: Well tolerated when used correctly
